There was a good turnout at both events of this reunion. First, was a pizza party on Friday evening. Then on Saturday, there was a catered picnic with excellent food and plenty of time for conversation with friends. Mrs. Langmas stopped by the picnic to say hi.
50th Reunion Car Show
The 50th reunion car show was a big success. It was held on the lawn at the Inn at the Seventh Mountain. We had several cars, including two of Earl Clausen’s customs (the green and the yellow ones). Earl’s green one is shown in two pictures below. We are hoping to get Earl’s descriptions of the cars.
Earl ’54 started the Bend Le Mans Car Club back in 1956 as a subset of the Portland LeMans Club. He always owned a very cool custom and we all looked up to him. His parents owned the Midget Drive-In out on South 3rd. Since he brought two customs to the reunion, I (Russ Y0ung) got to drive one. What a thrill! Maybe that is why he brought two.
Comment from Bill Bennett’s Facebook page to Bill from a friend:
Bill, I had a 51 Merc also! I like your baby moons with beauty rims, shaved handles, lakes pipes, frenched headlights and bull nose. Also the lowering. Did you torch a few coils out of the springs and is it still running a flathead? Are those real whitewalls or are they Port-O-Walls? You and I are probably the only ones that know what all this means!?
Answer from Bill: Wish I still had it. I had a 283 Chev motor in it with the stock trany. The interior was all white tuck and roll. Firestone 500 white walls.
